Bregenz by Lake Constance
The beauty of Lake Constance is the jewel of the city of Bregenz, with urban being combined with natural. This gives rise to a varied living environment around its bank, with the lake, the third-largest inland lake in Central Europe, forming the gleaming centre of the three countries of Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
In its diversity, Lake Constance creates a place in which man and animal find security and joie de vivre in many various facets of their existence. Known as the city by the lake, Bregenz interprets the qualities of Lake Constance and takes advantage of its countless possibilities. Allure and charm characterise the idyll of its waters.

The Bregenz littoral was mentioned for the first time in 1294. The first testimonies of a landing also date from this time. Since its origins in the Middle Ages, the landing has become a modern port, which now accommodates the increasing visitor frequency on land and by sea thanks to an extensive redesign. The new port is inviting and offers some design and architectural delights.
In the summer months, the pleasantly invigorating water of Lake Constance offers a refreshing change from a city trip. Not far from the centre of the city of Bregenz, the bathing fun in the outdoor pools and on the beaches is very close to the urban goings-on and yet far removed from the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life. Locals also take advantage of the qualities of Lake Constance to take a little time out.
Bregenz is also a popular destination for sailors. The new marina is an attractive docking destination for guests – as is the sport harbour, located slightly further to the east. The highlight of the sailing season at Lake Constance is the East-West Regatta. This year, it begins on 28 July in Bregenz. Then the ships head for Konstanz, 46 kilometres away. Last year, when the route was covered in the opposite direction, approximately 250 ships were involved.
Barbecuing at sunset beside Lake Constance is a special experience.
On the banks of Lake Constance there are numerous fireplaces at which barbecuing is exclusively permitted:
- 7 fireplaces at the Wocherhafen
- 4 at the lake camping sunbathing area
- 1 at the sport harbour dry berth
- 10 in the proximity of the Mili
Barbecuing in public places always requires that responsibility be borne towards nature. Please note that entering the nature preserve is prohibited and that a glass prohibition applies in the entire bank area. Additionally, it is requested that visitors use dry wood for barbecuing, as far as possible, and that they put the fireplaces out completely before leaving the spot.
