The dream of flying comes true – on a journey through 100 years of history of aviation and space travel! Huge flying boats, nostalgic passenger aircraft and exciting space travel exhibits make a visit to the Dornier Museum Friedrichshafen by Lake Constance a unique experience for the whole family. In direct proximity to the airport, the museum houses approximately 400 exhibition items on an area of 5,000 m2. In addition to numerous original aeroplanes, the two replicas Dornier Wal and Dornier Merkur are highlights of the exhibition and bring the pioneer spirit of the 1920s to life.
On a guided tour of the museum, amusing anecdotes and interesting facts bring the development of aviation and the pioneering achievements of engineer Claude Dornier to life. Countless world records, patents and superlative technical achievements document the impressive history of the company Dornier. General political, economic and social conditions show what moved and motivated people in the respective time periods. The large terrace of the DO-X restaurant offers a unique view of the zeppelin hangar opposite. Here, one can watch the zeppelins as well as the commercial aeroplanes of Friedrichshafen Airport taking off and landing to one’s heart’s content. In the creative corner and at the Mini Pilots, small museum visitors can take off too. With the new Do 27 flight simulator, the dream of flying comes true on a virtual sightseeing flight above Lake Constance.
