Pfänder - The mountain on Lake Constance
From the city center, it takes one and a half hours walking or only six minutes by cable car to get to the top of the backyard mountain of Bregenz. Small children and wheelchair users especially enjoy the ride in the panorama cable car, which was at its opening in 1927 one of the first cable cars in Austria. It has room for 80 people.
At the peak with a height of 1064 metres above sea level, visitors can enjoy the great view with a 360 degree panorama. From this popular viewpoint you can look across Lake Constance and around you there are 240 mountains: the alps of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. The free gamepark, the eagle aviary with its raptor airshow, (open daily from 11am to 2:30pm), and the playground at the summit station are popular destinations for families.
Here begins a wide network of paths for hikers and bikers, for example the famous cheese trail along the ridge of the Pfänder. Restaurants and mountain huts invite you to rest.
