Kunsthaus Bregenz
„The house of art stands in the light of Lake Constance. It's body consists of glass tops, steel, and a stony mixture of cast concrete, which on the inside of the building gives structure and space. Looked at from the outside, the house seems to be illuminated. It reflects the changing light of the sky and hazy light of the lake, which gives, depending on the perspective, time of the day, and weather conditions, an idea of the inner structure.“
Peter Zumthor, Architect
Kunsthaus Bregenz (KUB)
The house of art (KUB), a building by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, has been one of the leading exhibition halls for contemporary art in Europe since its opening in 1997. With a special glass facade the Pritzker-Prize winner Zumthor has created unique lighting conditions in the interior of the 1,600 square-foot house; a cube which leads to the art and is an artwork itself. The KUB attracts around 60,000 visitors each year. Changing exhibitions are on the programme.
Often an artist plays the whole House – repeatedly in exhibitions designed specifically for Bregenz. Many famous artists have already attracted attention, such as Jeff Koons, Roy Liechtenstein, Damien Hirst, Cy Twombly, Candice Breitz, Antony Gormley and Ai Weiwei. The future program of KUB will focus even more strongly than before on artists from Africa, Asia and Latin America. There are guided tours, lectures, and special programs for children. The KUB Arena on the ground floor is the setting for performances and discussions.

The architecture
The actual responsibility of a Museum is to be a venue for works of art and a place for people who want to deal with these works of art alone. That was what the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, according to his own words, aimed at with his design for the Kunsthaus Bregenz.
" The house of art stands in the light of Lake Constance. It's body consists of glass tops, steel, and a stony mixture of cast concrete, which on the inside of the building gives structure and space. Looked at from the outside, the house seems to be illuminated. It reflects the changing light of the sky and the hazy light of the lake, and gives, depending on the perspective, time of the day, and weather conditions, an idea of the inner structure"
